Somewhere right now, one person is killing another. This has been happening, without interruption, for approximately 300,000 years. We think it's time for a day off.

The International Day of No Killing is a single 24-hour period — a Monday, because nothing too dramatic should happen on a Monday — during which the entire human species agrees to not intentionally kill one another.

Just the one day. We're not asking for a lifestyle change. We understand you're busy. We're simply suggesting that whatever you had planned might be rescheduled to Tuesday.

"Not one day. In 300,000 years. Not a single one. Surely we can manage a Monday."

40 people have pledged not to kill anyone on Monday 3rd March 2031.

If you leave an email we'll send one reminder nearer the day. That's it. We won't share it, sell it, or use it for anything else.

Thank you, .
You're officially on the pledge list. Tell someone. That's the whole job.
▸ Frequently Asked Questions
Is this serious?
Completely. Well. Mostly. The killing part is serious. The rest we're flexible on.
What if I've already made plans?
We recommend rescheduling. Most calendars have a drag-and-drop feature. Studies show that most murders are surprisingly flexible on timing.
Does this include governments and militaries?
We'd really appreciate it, yes. We understand this may be logistically challenging and will require some advance notice to your various departments. Please do what you can.
What if the killing is technically legal?
We've thought about this and we're still going to say no. Thank you for checking though.
What if it's for a really good reason?
Everyone thinks their reason is good. That's sort of the whole problem.
What if someone is really annoying?
We understand. We still have to say no.
What about self-defence?
Look, we're not monsters. Use your judgement.
Is this naive?
Almost certainly. We're doing it anyway.
Has there ever been a murder-free 24 hours in history?
Almost definitely not. We've been at this for 300,000 years without a day off. We feel a rest is overdue.
Can I kill animals?
This campaign is specifically about humans killing humans. We've looked at the wider picture and decided to start small.
What do I do with the time I would have spent killing someone?
Excellent question. We recommend hiking, cooking, or staring quietly at the sky. There's a lot of sky.
What if I forget?
Put a note on your fridge.
Will this actually change anything?
Probably not in any measurable way. But you'll have spent one Monday not killing anyone, and honestly that's a pretty good Monday by most standards.
I'm in. What do I do?
Tell someone. That's it. Tell one person. You've now done more for world peace than most governments will all year.

No one has ever committed a war crime while also repotting a begonia. We're not saying gardening is the answer. We're saying it's a start.

I had something on that Monday but I've moved it to the Wednesday. Happy to help.

I wasn't planning on killing anyone anyway but it's nice to feel included.

We appreciate the five years notice. This is more than we usually get.

Maybe instead of whatever you had planned, you could feed the ducks. The ducks have no geopolitical agenda. The ducks are just ducks.
